UNBELIEVABLE VITAL NEWS:Mike Tullberg and the five coaches that have graduated from Borussia Dortmund’s reserves to the first team

Mike Tullberg, born on December 25, 1985, in Farum, Denmark, is a former professional footballer and current football manager. As a player, he was a forward and had stints with clubs such as AGF Aarhus in Denmark, Reggina in Italy, and Heart of Midlothian in Scotland. His playing career was notably impacted by injuries, leading to an early transition into coaching.

Tullberg began his coaching career with roles at SG Schönebeck and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen’s youth teams. In 2017, he returned to Denmark to manage AGF Aarhus’s U19 team. By 2019, he joined Borussia Dortmund, initially taking charge of the reserve team (Borussia Dortmund II) for the 2019–20 season. In May 2020, he was appointed as the head coach of Dortmund’s U19 team, a position he held until January 2025.

On January 22, 2025, following the dismissal of head coach Nuri Sahin, Tullberg was named interim head coach of Borussia Dortmund’s first team. He is set to lead the team in their upcoming Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen.

Borussia Dortmund has a history of promoting coaches from their reserve or youth teams to the first team. Notable examples include:

David Wagner: Managed Borussia Dortmund II before moving to Huddersfield Town in England.

Daniel Farke: Coached Dortmund’s reserves for 56 matches before managing Norwich City in England and later Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany.

Jan Siewert: Led Borussia Dortmund II prior to taking the managerial role at Huddersfield Town.

Hannes Wolf: Served as BVB reserve team assistant in 2009 and was at the club throughout the success of Jürgen Klopp and the emergence of David Wagner and Daniel Farke.

Edin Terzić: Worked within Dortmund’s coaching setup before becoming the first-team manager.

These instances highlight Borussia Dortmund’s commitment to developing coaching talent from within their ranks, providing a pathway for coaches to progress to higher man

agerial positions.
