THE DJOKOVIC REVIVAL: Novak’s Title Chances Get Massive Boost

Novak Djokovic has received a significant boost in his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals at the end of the season.

Despite stating that reaching the final eight in Turin isn’t a major goal for him in late 2024, Djokovic is set to compete in the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai and the Paris Masters next month. As a record-breaking seven-time ATP Finals champion, he has emphasized that he won’t be upset if he doesn’t qualify this year, stating, “Torino is not my goal at all… I’m not chasing the ATP Finals or rankings.”

Djokovic expressed that his main priorities are playing for his national team and Grand Slams, with less emphasis on other tournaments. He plans to reassess his schedule after Shanghai, noting that he typically used to plan six months ahead but now prefers a more spontaneous approach, emphasizing the need for rest before deciding on his future plans.

To qualify for the ATP Finals, Djokovic must perform well in both Shanghai and Paris. Currently, he ranks ninth in the race to Turin, with his chances dependent on players ahead of him, like US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz, who is also vying for a spot. Fritz’s recent loss at the Japan Open means he won’t secure his place just yet.

Djokovic is 630 points behind Fritz but could close the gap with strong performances, while he might surpass Alex de Minaur, who is struggling with injury. He also has the opportunity to overtake Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud in the standings.

However, he needs to be wary of other competitors, like Grigor Dimitrov and Tommy Paul, who are also in contention for a place in Turin. Meanwhile, Stefanos Tsitsipas’ chances took a hit after his recent defeat in Japan.
