With the January transfer window over and the Championship run-in underway, Leeds United will wave goodbye to five players after the remaining 15 matches, as things stand.

Joe Rothwell and Manor Solomon are currently on loan at Leeds and if no action is taken, the will leave Leeds in June. Solomon has hinted at a permanent move while Leeds will need to pay £7.5m for Rothwell.

Three first-teams stars are out of contract at Leeds in Junior Firpo, Sam Byram and Josuha Guilavogui. The form of Byram and more notably Firpo has seen fans call for new contracts for those two at the very least.

Guilavogui is unlikely to see his Leeds deal extended especially having struggled in his two starts against Harrogate and Millwall. Byram would love to sign on while there is always ample interest in Firpo.

Daniel Farke responds when asked about expiring Leeds deals
Firpo’s three assists saw many call on Leeds to open talks to keep him. Firpo is said to be keen on a new deal, but Leeds are yet to open negotiations and that has seen Firpo’s entourage plan for a summer exit.

Asked if Leeds were any closer to extending the contracts of Firpo, Byram or Guilavogui, Farke said that there is simply no time to think about new contracts for them but will sit down when the time is right.

“At the moment, there is no time to be distracted contract talks. For Josh, we signed him late and it was time to concentrate. Junior, he had a really good start before tricky period with injuries and suspensions.

“Don’t want to distract him when finding his rhythm. There is no time to waste energy about individuals or what happens in the next six months, we’ll have some proper conversations when it’s time to do this.”

Should Leeds offer Byram and Firpo a new contract?
The issue with Firpo is that he is on big wages and if Leeds do want to keep the former Barcelona ace, there are two areas they need to consider. Firpo has starred in the last 18 months after two poor years.

In the Premier League, his attacking ability leaves gaps. it’s okay at this level given the quality of teams Leeds are playing but the in the top tier, he gets found out. The 49ers have to take this into consideration.

With Byram, his versatility and Thorp Arch production makes him the ideal candidate to keep as a back-up full-back. But there is a world that is easily imaginable where both stay at Leeds, or both decide to go.
