Rory Jennings weighed into the penalty controversy involving Ashley Young in Everton’s contentious 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Saturday.

Everton were coasting thanks to first-half goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure at Goodison Park with the Red Devils well off the pace.

However, Ruben Amorim’s men came back into the game thanks to quickfire goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte but another late twist was to follow.

Andy Madley initially pointed to the spot when Everton’s former Man United defender Young was felled by a combination of Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt.

However, the referee controversially opted to reverse his decision when advised to go to the pitch-side monitor by VAR, with some questioning whether he was shown the correct angle of the incident.

David Moyes is still making progress at Goodison Park
Although David Moyes and his team will no doubt feel hard done by with the way that their clash against Manchester United ended, the fact they’ve made as much progress as they have in his short time in charge is impressive.

The only real changes the Scotsman has made to the team is that he’s brought Carlos Alcaraz in during the winter window as well as the likes of Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien.

Team Position Points
Everton 14th 31
Manchester United 15th 30
West Ham 16th 30
Wolves 17th 22
The Premier League table as it stands (23 February).
So, the fact that Everton are now 14 points clear of the drop zone is nothing short of remarkable.

Many questioned the Friedkin Groups’ decision to bring Moyes back but by the time the end of the Premier League season comes around, it could end up being one of the best decisions that any top-flight club has made this term.
