Régis Le Bris admitted Sunderland fell well below their standards in a frustrating defeat at Coventry today…

A Haji Wright hat-trick handed the Black Cats their toughest loss of the season, ending a three-game unbeaten run with eight Sky Bet Championship fixtures remaining.

Speaking post-match, Le Bris said: “It wasn’t our best version of Sunderland today – we were far from the level we expect.

“Coventry played good football, they were intense, and we couldn’t match that.

“It’s a bad day for us, our first real setback of the season. In this competition, if we’re not at our level, the game can be ruthless.

“Coventry’s style was clear. We lost too many duels and second balls, and we didn’t take care of possession. We were sloppy, allowing them to create chances and build momentum.

“We didn’t deserve anything this afternoon,” he continued.

“It’s an important reminder for us at this stage of the season.

“With a well-deserved break ahead, we need to reset, because if we’re not at our best, we won’t be competitive.”
