Rangers will be looking to build on the win against Hearts on Sunday and end the season in a positive manner.

While the pressure is not off Philippe Clement, he’s in a much better position than he was at this time last week.
With plenty still being reported about the club in the media, Ibrox News has rounded up the news from 17 February.

Philippe Clement is still clinging on to his Rangers job
While an away win is a welcome feather in the Belgian’s cap, his job is certainly far from safe at Ibrox.

He has already lost the fans a while ago and the decision makers at the club are not yet convinced that he’s the right man for the job in the long term.

Daily Record’s Andy Newport reported on 17 February that Clement is “clinging” on to his job amid poor domestic performances all season.

Danilo unlikely to start against St Mirren
Danilo has been ruled out with a shoulder injury for the Ibrox outfit and is still yet to return to full first-team training.

Even if he does, Dr Rajpal Brar explains that it will be too early for him to start as he’ll need to get some minutes under his belt off the bench before he can start again.

The positive for the Brazilian is that as he’s been out with an upper-body injury, the conditioning in the gym will be quicker in comparison to if he had a lower-body setback.

Steven Gerrard named “outstanding” candidate for Rangers
Derek Ferguson has named Steven Gerrard as his outstanding candidate to take over the reins at Ibrox again.
While Clement is still the manager, Ferguson believes that the fans need someone who can win league titles, over being entertained.

In his view, the former Liverpool midfielder knows the Scottish game and how to win titles and should we welcomed back at the club.

He told Ibrox News: “Rangers fans won’t be too bothered about being entertained. They want to see a manager who can win league titles.

“Sean Dyche at Everton, is that the type of football Rangers fans want? I don’t think it really matters. I think it’s all about winning league titles, winning cups.

“But for me, the outstanding candidate is Steven Gerrard. I’m sure others will emerge, and these are all interesting names, but Steven Gerrard knows the Scottish game and what it takes to win a title.

“People say you should never go back, but who knows? I’m not surprised he’s the favourite and he’s the one I’d certainly be looking at.”

Alison McConnell has issued her verdict on Rangers sacking Philippe Clement at the end of the season.

Despite returning to winning ways against Hearts as they won 3-1 at Tynecastle on Sunday, there were plenty of questions asked about the efforts of the Gers players.

Two of the goals were own goals for the visitors and the hosts dominated possession and had the majority of the chances.

Philippe Clement is unlikely to be sacked by Rangers
Questions have rightly been asked of the Belgian given what an underwhelming campaign it has been for the Ibrox outfit.

They have been knocked out of both cups, with the recent one coming against Queen’s Park at Ibrox and there’s no distinct identity of play that will excite the fans.

However, despite all that, McConnell, a journalist for the Scottish Herald sees him remaining at Ibrox until the end of the season.

She told PLZ Soccer on 17 February at 12:11 “Philippe Clement will be in situ until the end of the season but certainly, I think the wind yesterday would just alleviate a lot of the noise around his position ease a bit of the pressure on the players and the intensity on the back of obviously what’s been a pretty harrowing week.

Patrick Stewart needs to find replacements for Philippe Clement
Three points on Sunday were certainly a positive but there was little in the performance to suggest the Belgian is turning the stone at Rangers.

The style of play was drab, a lot of the players did not seem to understand what they were expected to do and had Hearts been more clinical, this one could’ve ended 3-3.

There were few individual performers that helped carry the team over the line but it was clearly not a managerial masterclass.

It makes sense for Patrick Stewart to engage in conversations with other managers gauge if they are keen on moving to Ibrox.

As things stand, the board do not appear to be willing to part ways with Clement until the end of the season which is surprising as it’s not even going to cost them too much.

A new manager bounce could see the players put in the extra effort and that could see them become legitimate candidates for the Europa League too.

However, the board appear to lack the ambition to make these bold and brave decisions, much to the annoyance of the fanbase.

It remains to be seen if things improve or fans will have to endure a painful watch until the end of the season.
