Milojevic, a Serbian, fell ill at a private team dinner on Tuesday and was taken to a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Warriors announced publicly that Milojevic died late Wednesday morning “despite life-saving efforts.
” head coach Steve Kerr said his Belgrade-born assistant “bred joy and light to every day with his passion.
” Mr Kerr described the news as a “shocking and tragic blow” and said Mr Milojevic was “one of the most positive and beautiful people” he had ever known.
He added: “We mourn with his wife Natasa and her children Nicola and Masa.
” “Their loss is unimaginable.
” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Warriors added that they were “absolutely devastated” by Milojevic’s sudden death.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Milojevic was a “beloved colleague and dear friend to many in the global basketball community.
” The former professional player transferred to Golden State in 2021 and was part of the coaching staff that led the Warriors to the NBA title in 2022.
Milojevic has been with the Serbian team for 14 years and was appointed assistant coach of the 1999 national team in December 2019.
Things changed in America three years ago, when he also served as the head coach of KK Buduknost of Montenegro’s Adriatic League for a time before joining the Warriors.
The Warriors were scheduled to play the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, but the NBA postponed the game after word of Milojevic’s medical emergency broke.
