Jarrad Branthwaite has called on his Everton side to take the positives from their defeat to Bournemouth as he opened up on the change of atmosphere around the club since David Moyes’ arrival. The Cherries burst Everton’s bubble to end Moyes’ dream of bringing silverware back to the club as they dumped the Blues out of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Antoine Semenyo won and converted a penalty to put Andoni Iraola’s side ahead before former Everton transfer target Daniel Jebbison scored two minutes before the break to put his side in total control. The Blues, to their credit, rallied in the second-half and incredibly hit the woodwork three times. Carlos Alcaraz came off the bench and curled a free-kick against the post before Jake O’Brien’s header and Jack Harrison’s cross both came crashing off the other upright.

And while Branthwaite admitted that his side’s exit from the cup was disappointing, he called on his team-mates to take the positives from their second-half performance into Wednesday’s rearranged Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

“Obviously it is frustrating, we are out of the cup,” he said. “It is not the result we wanted. [In the] first half, our own mistakes have cost us the game.

“It is what it is. We didn’t take our chances, they took theirs when they had them, and they came away with the win and are into the next round.
“I think we have been on a good run. It is disappointing, but we will take belief from the second-half performance and take it into the next game.
“Like I say, you take the positives out of the second-half. We created lots of chances, and that is something we weren’t doing a few months ago, creating them chances to score.

“I think you see the improvement over the last four or five games where we are creating good opportunities, and in the last games we have been taking them, but today we just didn’t.
“I think it is about the positives from it. It is not the result we wanted, but there is nothing we can do about that now.”
Blues boss Moyes spoke ahead of the game about his desire to challenge for a trophy again, with Everton’s last coming in 1995, and named his strongest side, with only Vitalii Mykolenko missing with a minor calf problem.

However, this defeat brought an end to a three-game winning run under the Scot, but Branthwaite admits that since his arrival at the club following Sean Dyche’s departure, there has been a change in atmosphere.
He said: “Wins are obviously going to lift the atmosphere around the club. I think since the manager has come in, there has been a change in atmosphere, then the wins that have followed have given us a bit of momentum.
“The fans are right behind us, and it makes it a difficult place when teams come here. I can feel the change, and hopefully we will continue doing that.”
