|I was watching some old YouTube videos of Mandlikova and Edberg at the U.S. Open. As much as I love the modern game, I can’t help but think that, over the course of different generations, we’ve ruined tennis for good. 😑
Nobody serves and volleys anymore, nobody chips and charges. Only one player with a one-handed backhand is in the top ten. We’ve lost what made tennis so beautiful – its depth and diversity of styles.
We still have strong personalities and stellar performances, but just look at the top ten: Alcaraz, Sinner, Djokovich, Zverev, Medvedev, Hurkacz, Rublev, Ruud. It’s practically the same power baseline game across the board – it just boils down to whoever does it better on a given day.
I don’t know what I’ll do when Dimitrov retires. 😂
Tennis may be more popular and richer than ever, but sometimes I wonder if it’s lost its soul. 💔
