Rangers might not be looking at strengthening their defensive ranks before the winter deadline due to the emergence of Clinton Nsiala, according to the Scotsman.
The Scottish outlet reported via their website (3 February) that the recent form of the former AC Milan defender “probably negates” the Gers’ need for a new centre-back.
Rangers Lose Out On ‘Glimmer of Light’ – Wyness:…
Philippe Clement’s men have struggled with injuries to their back line since the season kicked off and, as Rafael Fernandes was brought in, no further moves are likely to happen.
Rangers could be shooting themselves in the foot by not bringing in a new defender
While the Gers’ chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title were written off just a few games into the 2024/25 season, they still have the Europa League and the Scottish Cup to fight for.
Clement’s men defied the odds and managed to finish in the top eight of the Europa League, proving their talent against difficult opponents such as Manchester United and Tottenham.

While the Belgian’s team are by no means guaranteed to make their way into the final, it feels like they’d have a much better chance of doing so if they had some additional cover for their back line.

Because, when the likes of John Souttar and James Tavernier weren’t ruled out, their back four seemed fairly solid but when they both ended up injured, it put Rangers in a bit of a pickle.
Even though Nsiala has been impressive since being brought into the starting XI, it still feels like they could do with someone to replace Robin Propper or even come in as a more solid fourth choice.

Genoa have been touted as the leader in the race to secure Hagi’s services, with his contract at the Light Blues expiring at the end of the season.
However, the Serie A side will no longer pursue Hagi this window, as Marsiglia tells Ibrox News how developments involving AC Milan have put a likely end to any deal for the Romanian.
“I don’t think Hagi can arrive today because Genoa is closing with Milan for Hugo Cuenca, a 2005-born attacking midfielder or winger.“

Marsiglia added that the development might be one to keep an eye on closer to the summer transfer window.
Rangers will retain Ianis Hagi until end of the season
The Gers are powerless regarding Hagi’s future but have presented the player with a new contract offer [David Edgar] to fend off interest from abroad.
He has since emerged as a key player for Philippe Clement this season after initially being frozen out of the first-team picture following a contract stand-off.

Therefore, despite operating on a sell-to-buy model in the transfer market, the Belgian believes Hagi is much more valuable staying put at Ibrox as Rangers begin the long journey of closing the monumental gap to Glaswegian rivals Celtic.

However, the 26-year-old has informed his entourage of his desire to return to Italian football and he could see out the remainder of his contract at Ibrox before heading back to Serie A.
Although Genoa are shelving their interest for now, president Dan Sucu is likely to reignite his approach for Hagi at the end of the season.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are ready for a last-gasp new attacker transfer at Ibrox.
