Troy Deeney picks Manchester United as surprise landing spot for £50m striker

Manchester United have just over a week left to complete their transfer business, and there are still potentially a few gaps to be filled.

Ferdi Kadioglu is in ta tolks over a move to Man United in a bid to strengthen the left-back position, while the Red Devi tols plan a huge offer to sign Frenkie De Jong this summer.

And, with Scott McTominay attracting interest from Tottenham, there could be a potential space to fill in the middle of midfield before the window closes.

Yet, Troy Deeney feels as if the Red Devils still need to be looking at attacking reinforcements.

Troy Deeney says Ivan Toney is the perfect striker for Manchester United

Speaking on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel, The Cycling GK, Deeney mooted IvanToney as the perfect striker for Manchester United amid exit links.

When asked about potential destinations for Toney to land this summer, Deeney said: “Man United, Man United – all day, every day.

“That’s the one that you look at the style, you go, right, they need a targetman, they can look after the ball, someone that can link it with players running behind, Marcus, Garnacho, they like to run in behind without the ball, and then they always get into wide positions, and they cross it, and they have got Bruno Fernandes trying to head it, which is not his game.

“You know what I mean? Get balls in the box, and he will score, but they have just invested heavily last year on a striker, so to do it again is questionable.”

Tottenham have an interest in Toney, and there are other suitors, with the Saudi Pro League a potential destination, so it won’t be easy should Man United dip back into the market for another striker.

Ivan Toney is the striker Erik ten Hag has been craving

Manchester United received the news that Rasmus Hojlund was set to be out for six weeks at the start of August, which piled even more pressure on Joshua Zirkzee after joining from Bologna.

Putting all your trust in a new signing with very little Premier League experience is a huge gamble, which didn’t exactly pay off with Hojlund last season as he netted just 10 in the Premier League.

On the other hand, Toney proved to be one of the standout strikers in the top flight before his suspension, scoring an impressive 20 goals in 33 appearances for Brentford in the 2022-2023 season.

In addition to his goalscoring ability, the Englishman effectively brings other players into the game as a target man in the final third.

This is something that the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Alejandro Garnacho can all benefit from, with knockdowns and flick-ons to get them in behind.

However, having spent well over £100 million already this summer, it would come as a surprise to see the Manchester club splash out again, with Brentford demanding £50 million for Toney.

Player now dropped for first league game after reports Man United and Liverpool willing to bid £51m

Manchester United and Liverpool are both still in the market for reinforcements as we enter the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are pushing to sign a new central midfielder, while Manchester United are also hunting for a new option in that department amid links to Manuel Ugarte.

Now – however – a forward who has found himself linked with both Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot‘s respective sides has just been dropped…

Atalanta No.11 Ademola Lookman has suddenly been dropped from the squad by Gian Piero Gasperini as his future is clouded in uncertainty.

The Nigeria international was involved on Wednesday as Atalanta suffered a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, so his removal from the squad for Monday’s Serie A clash against Lecce has certainly come out of the blue.

It comes after Calciomercato claimed that Manchester United and Liverpool are both willing to bid £51m for Lookman after his outstanding 2023/24 campaign.

The 26-year-old impressively scored 17 goals and provided ten assists in 45 appearances for Atalanta, including a hat trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final.

Fabrizio Romano has since posted that Paris Saint-Germain and clubs in Saudi Arabia are keeping an eye on Lookman’s situation.

Nigeria international could replace Luis Diaz

As this summer transfer window goes on, there are more and more stories linking Luis Diaz with a move away from Anfield – mainly to Barcelona.

Francois Plateau recently claimed that Barcelona are willing to offer Frenkie de Jong to Liverpool in a bid to sign the Colombia international.

There haveeven been reports stating that Diaz is tempted by the chance to join Barcelona this summer.

Lookman is able to play anywhere across the frontline, although he typically operates on the left of attack, the same area as the Liverpool No.7 – so he would be a natural replacement for the South American.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Londoner’s future is well and truly up in the air.
