GOOD NEWS: Duke Blue Basketball Management Announces £350m Bogart Stadium Renovation

Duke University has recently announced significant enhancements to its athletic facilities, focusing on both its football and baseball venues.

Devils Deck at Wallace Wade Stadium

In July 2024, Duke Athletics introduced the “Devils Deck” at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium, home of the Blue Devils football team. This all-inclusive, tiered deck spans seven sections and accommodates over 1,500 fans, offering a unique social experience that blends traditional tailgating with live game viewing. Features of the Devils Deck include:

Amenities: All-you-can-eat tailgate food, non-alcoholic beverages, access to purchase beer and seltzer, rotating yard games, and an in-game DJ to enhance the atmosphere.

Design: The space offers both standing and non-reserved seating areas, catering to individual fans and groups seeking a communal game-day experience.

Access: Passes start at $45 per person if purchased at least 24 hours before kickoff or $55 on game day. Duke students can access the area for $35. It’s important to note that a valid game ticket is required in addition to the Devils Deck pass.

The introduction of the Devils Deck is part of Duke’s ongoing efforts to enhance fan engagement and modernize its athletic facilities. The renovations to the north end of the stadium have reduced the official seating capacity from 40,004 to 35,018, reflecting a shift towards creating more interactive and versatile spectator spaces.

Enhancement Plan for Jack Coombs Field

In October 2024, Duke Athletics, in collaboration with LeChase Construction and EwingCole Architecture, announced a phased enhancement plan for Jack Coombs Field, the home of the Blue Devils baseball team. This initiative aims to celebrate the program’s rich history while providing state-of-the-art facilities to support its competitive future and player development. The plan is structured in multiple phases to strategically address program and budgetary priorities:

Phase One: Commenced on August 12, 2024, this phase includes the construction of new dugouts, an updated playing field with revised dimensions, new bullpens, an outdoor hitting facility, group hospitality areas behind the outfield fence, upgraded tiered lawn seating along the first base line, a new player development lab/indoor training facility, and enhanced facility lighting and player development technology.

These enhancements are designed to elevate the player and fan experience, ensuring that Duke’s baseball facilities meet contemporary standards for collegiate athletics. The improvements aim to support player development and create a more engaging environment for spectators.

Both projects underscore Duke University’s commitment to providing top-tier facilities for its athletic programs, enhancing the overall experience for athletes and fans alike.
