Draymond Green Takes Blame for Costly Missed Layup and Turnovers in Warriors’ Loss to Clippers
|Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is owning up to his role in the team’s crushing 124-119 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, a defeat that cost the Warriors the sixth seed in the Western Conference and potentially an easier path in the NBA Playoffs.
The Warriors were in control for much of the game but fell apart late, largely due to key turnovers and missed opportunities. Green, a veteran leader and defensive anchor, was uncharacteristically sloppy, committing several turnovers and missing a crucial layup in the final minutes. After the game, he didn’t shy away from taking responsibility.
“I sucked tonight,” Green admitted. “Way too many turnovers. Too many missed opportunities. That’s on me.”
The Warriors turned the ball over 19 times, leading to 31 points for the Clippers. While the defense held its own, the offensive miscues proved too costly. Green’s missed layup in crunch time, followed by another turnover, helped seal the Warriors’ fate in a game that had major playoff implications.
“I cost us that game,” Green said. “It’s tough because we had it. We were right there. But I didn’t execute. That’s something I’ve got to live with and fix going forward.”
Despite the loss, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised Green’s leadership and accountability, saying, “Draymond owns up to mistakes. That’s what leaders do. He’ll bounce back.”
The defeat pushes Golden State into the play-in tournament, making their playoff path significantly more difficult. With star players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson still capable of elite performances, the Warriors remain a dangerous team. However, Green’s admission and the team’s late-game breakdown highlight the challenges they must overcome to make a deep postseason run.
