REPORT: Former Lions DE Bruce Irvin Lands With NFL Playoff Team

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that former Detroit Lions defensive end Bruce Irvin signed with the Miami Dolphins on January 9th.
Two days after the Detroit Lions waived defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, the veteran signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.
It didn’t happen all that quickly, but defensive end Bruce Irvin, recently released by the Lions, also found a new home.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on January 9 that Irvin has signed a contract to join the Miami Dolphins.
Irvin was one of three edge rushers the Dolphins signed.
“According to sources, the Dolphins will sign two more veteran pass rushers.
Bruce Irvin on the active roster and Malik Reed on the practice squad,” Pelissero wrote on X (ex-Twitter) I wrote this.
“After a crazy series of injuries, Miami added Justin Houston, Irvin, Reed a few days before the wild card playoff game in Kansas City.

The squad joins the Dolphins’ active roster after spending two months there.
Irvin appeared in two games for the Lions, recording one tackle, two quarterback hits, and one sack.
The Lions waived the 36-year-old on January 3rd.
Ironically, Irvin and Buggs will be playing with new teams during Wild Card weekend.
Bruce Irvin signs with Miami Dolphins The Dolphins deal marks Irvin’s seventh NFL organization.
Irvin, who began his career by being drafted 15th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seahawks in Seattle, recorded his 8 sacks as a rookie in 2012.
After that season, he totaled 40 tackles, including two tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, and two sacks, helping the Seahawks win the Super Bowl in 2013.
Irvin played his six seasons with the Seahawks in three different stages.
After another season, he signed with Seattle for 2020 and 2022.
In addition to the Lions and Seahawks during his career, Irvin also played for the then-Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Chicago Bears.
But unlike the Seahawks, Irvin only played a few seasons with the Raiders.
Irvin has totaled 344 tackles in his 140 games in his NFL career, including 70 of his tackles for loss, 131 quarterback hits, and 56.

Irvin, along with Justin Houston and Malik Reed, will be asked to replace key defenders, especially Chubb, who had 11 sacks with the Dolphins.
Irvin performed well in 12 total playoff games.
There were no sacks in the 2013-14 postseason, when the Seahawks won the Super Bowl.
However, in the 2014-15 playoffs, when the Seahawks were NFC champions again, Irvin had two sacks, two tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits for one loss in three playoff games.
Last year, Irvin played in a playoff game for the first time since 2016.
In that game against the San Francisco 49ers, Irvin totaled five tackles, including two for a loss and one sack.
