CLOSED: Michael Wolverines agree to transfer portal by signing Florida Gators quarterback, which we will join in 2 hours
|The Michigan Wolverines have been actively engaging with the transfer portal to strengthen their roster for the upcoming seasons. A notable addition is quarterback Mikey Keene, who committed to Michigan in December 2024. Keene, previously with Fresno State, brings significant experience and a prior working relationship with Michigan’s new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey. In the 2024 season, Keene completed 70.5% of his passes, amassing 2,892 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His familiarity with Lindsey’s system is expected to be advantageous as he competes for the starting quarterback position against five-star recruit Bryce Underwood.
In addition to Keene, Michigan has been targeting other key players through the transfer portal to address specific needs:
•Justice Haynes (Running Back, Alabama): With the departure of running backs Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards, Michigan is seeking to bolster its backfield. Haynes, who rushed for 616 yards and nine touchdowns over two seasons at Alabama, is considering Michigan among his potential destinations.
•Zachariah Branch (Wide Receiver, USC): To enhance their receiving corps, the Wolverines are pursuing Branch, a dynamic playmaker known for his speed and versatility. In 2024, Branch recorded 503 receiving yards and was recognized as an All-American for his return skills.
•Fa’alili Fa’amoe (Offensive Lineman, Washington State): Following the departure of right tackle Andrew Gentry, Michigan is looking to strengthen its offensive line. Fa’amoe, a 6-foot-5, 314-pound lineman with significant experience, has visited Michigan and is a strong candidate to fill this crucial position.
•Emmanuel Karnley (Cornerback, Arizona): With the loss of cornerbacks Will Johnson and Aamir Hall, the Wolverines are aiming to reinforce their secondary. Karnley, a 6-foot-3 cornerback with three years of eligibility remaining, could provide valuable depth and talent to Michigan’s defensive backfield.
•David Gusta (Defensive Lineman, Washington State): Anticipating the departures of defensive linemen Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, Michigan is seeking to add depth to its defensive front. Gusta, known for his run-stopping abilities, would be a significant addition to the Wolverines’ defensive line rotation.
These targeted efforts in the transfer portal reflect Michigan’s strategic approach to maintaining and enhancing its competitive edge in the upcoming season.
