Breaking News:Sheffield Wednesday Eye Hillsborough Miracle to Fuel Next Big Push

Danny Röhl is looking for toughness and leadership in Sheffield Wednesday’s squad as the season progresses.

The Owls host QPR at Hillsborough this afternoon, looking to end their three-game losing streak before the international break. Increased expectations on Wednesday this season have been fueled by a stunning finale to the 2022/23 season and a frantic summer transfer window that many regard as a success.

Much has been made of the spirit displayed by Wednesday players in last season’s survival struggle, and while many of those senior players remain, there appears to be a different mood in the changing room, with several major names moving on to pastures new. Röhl told The Star that he feels the manner of their 2023 promotion contributed to their ability to beat the odds again the following season, and he hopes to share new experiences of resilience with the new-look cohort.

He remarked, “Now we’re going to work on improving as a team, as a player, and as leaders.” You need success, points, and the ability to persevere in adverse situations. When playing against Plymouth, for example, you’re in a flow and don’t need to be resilient. We have more games ahead of us, and we need to be resilient in order to succeed as a team. I am confident that we will do and develop more of this closeness, this relationship, and the things that we need to get through the season.

Last season, they had ups and downs, but we had a team that had come back from the play-offs in a memorable occasion. This moment was useful for getting a team through different situations together because they shared the same experience. Now, my team has certain guys that we’ve kept, but we also have a lot of new players, young players, and academy players. We need these moments right now. Being a good team is easy in a good move, but in difficult situations, you build this process. This is my most important task.”

Röhl spoke confidently about the QPR match despite ‘question marks’ over the availability of several players, particularly in defence. He remarked, “I know the results, and I know we can’t be happy because our demand is higher, but now is not the time to look too far in the wrong direction.” It is the reason I don’t want to dwell on the past; for me, the QPR game is about looking forward, and I am confident we can take the next step.”
