Breaking News: Fabrizio Romano Reveals Major Brighton Transfer Update on £20M Decision

Antonio Conte and Napoli continue to track Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour

Brighton and Hove Albion are in talks with Napoli about a possible trade for Billy Gilmour. The Italians are determined to sign the Scottish international and have been in contact with Brighton throughout the summer transfer season.

Napoli made a surprise offer of roughly £8 million, which Brighton quickly rejected, and the Serie A club is said to have responded with proposals of over £15 million plus add-ons.

Their manager, Antonio Conte, worked with Gilmour at Chelsea and believes his style would be ideal for the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Brighton are in a great position because they do not need to sell, and Gilmour is under contract with the club until June 2026. He joined the Seagulls from Chelsea in 2022 for roughly £7 million and has played 58 games with four assists. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Negotiations are underway for Gilmour with Brighton, as the request from #BHAFC is around €20 million, but Napoli are confident.”

Brighton offered the 23-year-old prolonged leave following his performances with Scotland at Euro 2024, and he has yet to appear in any pre-season games. Following a 1-0 victory over QPR last Saturday, new manager Fabian Hurzeler stated that Gilmour is expected to return this week. Their final preseason encounter against Villarreal is coming Saturday at Amex Stadium, and their first Premier League game is against Everton on August 17. Losing Gilmour would be a blow to Albion, who have already lost midfielder Pascal Gross to Borussia Dortmund for about £6 million, and Poland international Jakub Moder is reportedly expected to go.

They have, however, signed Mats Wieffer from Feyenoord for £25 million, while Diego Gomez is likely to complete his £12 million transfer to Brighton from Inter Miami later this month and join in January.
