BBC REPORT: The Las Vegas Raiders are facing major challenges with their quarterback lineup due to injuries.

The Las Vegas Raiders are grappling with significant challenges in their quarterback lineup due to a series of injuries that have plagued the team throughout the 2024 NFL season.

The turmoil began when starting quarterback Gardner Minshew suffered a season-ending broken collarbone during a Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos. Late in the fourth quarter, with the Raiders trailing 26-19, Minshew was sacked and landed hard on his left shoulder, leading to the injury. He concluded his season with 2,013 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and ten interceptions. In his absence, backup quarterback Desmond Ridder stepped in but faced challenges, including a critical fumble shortly after taking over.

Compounding the team’s difficulties, rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell, who had previously replaced Minshew, sustained a fractured thumb in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams. This injury sidelined him for several weeks. Upon his return, O’Connell faced further setbacks, including a knee injury during a Week 14 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was carted off the field in the third quarter. Subsequent MRI results confirmed a bone bruise, casting doubt on his availability for the remainder of the season.

In response to these challenges, the Raiders signed quarterback Carter Bradley to bolster their roster. Bradley’s addition aimed to provide depth, especially with O’Connell’s status uncertain and Ridder stepping into the starting role.

The continuous upheaval at the quarterback position has significantly impacted the Raiders’ performance, contributing to a disappointing 2-12 record. This series of misfortunes has intensified discussions about the team’s strategy moving forward, particularly concerning the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. With their current standing, the Raiders are in contention for a top draft pick, leading to speculation about selecting a new franchise quarterback to stabilize the position.

Head Coach Antonio Pierce has emphasized the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of these challenges. Despite the setbacks, the team remains focused on evaluating their current roster and planning for the future, aiming to rebuild and address the critical issues that have arisen this season.
