Aston Villa next five fixtures compared to Man City and Chelsea after Club Brugge win
Aston Villa have a Premier League game and a Champions League game before their two-and-a-half week break from competitive football.
Unai Emery’s side made a bright start at Jan Breydel Stadium and took the lead within three minutes. Leon Bailey swept home from inside the box following Tyrone Mings’ knockdown.

But Brugge responded to going a goal behind and equalised in the 12th minute. Maxim De Cuyper swept the ball into the bottom corner following Christos Tzolis’ smart lay-off.

That put Villa on the back foot and, although Brugge created chances to go in front, Emery’s men defended well and were able to pounce on a late collapse by the home team.

Brandon Mechele put through his own net in the 82nd minute before Marco Asensio scored Villa’s third from the penalty spot to earn them a 3-1 win. Emery’s men now take a two-goal advantage into the round of 16 second leg next Wednesday night, although Villa have a Premier League fixture before then.

With that in mind, Birmingham Live have taken a look at Villa’s next five matches across all competitions;

Aston Villa’s next five fixtures
March 8 vs Brentford (A) at 5.30pm – Premier Leagues
Birmingham Live says: The next couple of weeks feel season-defining. If Villa can get to the quarter-final of the Champions League, the FA Cup semi-final and record five points from a possible nine at a minimum in the Premier League, they will put themselves in a very strong position across all competitions.

First up is a trip to Brentford – and that is not going to be easy. After that, the second leg against Brugge comes around and Villa must be professional to get the job done. Emery’s side then face a two-and-a-half week break before their next game – a clash with Championship outfit Preston North End in the FA Cup. Back-to-back Premier League fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest wrap up that period.
