|Leeds United have been linked with a surprising move to sign Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the summer, but there’s a glaring issue.
Leeds have promotion in their sights right now, and with that comes suggestions of which positions the club would need to strengthen in order to stand a chance in the top flight.
One of those is the goalkeeper slot, chiefly because Illan Meslier has been the subject of justified criticism due to multiple high-profile errors.

A report from TBR Football this week claimed that Leeds are monitoring the situation regarding Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The Saints are currently on course to go very close with Derby County’s lowest points record in the Premier League after pipping Leeds to playoff promotion, and will no doubt already be preparing for their Championship return.
Ramsdale, a £25million signing in the summer, is said to have a relegation release clause in his contract, which has reportedly alerted Leeds to his potential availability this summer.

It goes without saying that Leeds would need major improvements virtually across the board if they want to stand any chance of staying in the top flight, should they get promoted in the first place.
With that, if you’re looking at the most obvious position that could be notably improved, it’s the goalkeeper spot, so links to top flight signings make a lot of sense in that regard.
Despite this, Ramsdale does not look like the signing that Leeds ought to be making, rapidly approaching his third Premier League relegation.
In the process, he’s not exactly doing his bit to keep Southampton in games, fourth-bottom on FBRef’s rankings of goalkeepers this season (38th out of 41) for post-shot expected goals prevented, -3.0, meaning the 26-year-old is underperforming significantly against shots he’s expected to save.
Leeds need their ‘keeper to be a shot-stopper first and foremost, and Ramsdale is currently proving to be sub-par in that regard.
