lEGIT NEWS : Why the new format for the Spring Game matters for the Ohio State QB battle

After finishing the longest season in college football history, the Ohio State football program is changing how they operate in the Spring. Ryan Day has decided to start practice a couple of weeks later than what they normally do to allow for some extra rest for his team.

Day has also decided that the format for the Spring Game will be different than what it has been in the past. We don’t know any more than that at this point because Day said he is still trying to figure things out. We do know that it won’t be a traditional game as it has been.

Whatever the format ends up being is a very important decision for Day to make. This is especially true for the three quarterbacks who are fighting for the starting job. That will be the first time that they will be playing an extended game with fans in the stands.

The new Spring Game format is important in the decision of who the starting QB will be for the Ohio State football team

The Ohio State Buckeyes will have a first-time starter at quarterback this year, no matter who it is. That means that they have to make sure they are making the right decision. Part of what could help them decide is to see how they each react while playing in front of thousands of fans.

Both Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz have played in the Spring Game before. Tavien St. Clair has not. None of them have ever gotten first-team reps, so this will be a new experience for all of them. The coaches might want to see how they deal with the energy of the crowd before making the final call.

Sayin is the favorite for the job right now. I’d be pretty surprised if he wasn’t the one who came out on top for the job. That doesn’t mean that this won’t be a true competition. All three players will have a legitimate shot to win the starting job. They just have to go out there and take it for themselves.
