Borussia Dortmund could complelty reset the club in the summer

Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund could look to completely reset the club in the summer if things continue on their current trend.

If the club misses out on Champions League football this season, which is a real possibility with Dortmund currently sitting in 11th in the Bundesliga, several scenarios could arise.

Everything will depend on Hans-Joachim Watzke, who is looking to leave his role at the club and gain election as the club’s president. If he postpones his decision to leave to focus on fixing the current situation which he created, the current structure at the club could collapse.

Lars Ricken, who is set to replace Watzke on the sporting side will no longer have power and could be relieved of his duties alongside Sebastian Kehl and Matthias Sammer. At the moment, Ricken is in a strong position due to the recent decision to sack both Nuri Şahin and Sven Mislintat as well as the ultimatum given to Sammer to chose the club or his role as a TV pundit.

However, if there is no success, Watzke will be forced to make changes, whether that be hiring another director of sports to replace Ricken or doing it himself. Both Markus Krösche and Ralf Rangnick are names that are being discussed when it comes to replacements. The former has a reputation as being able to sell players for large fees, which appeals to Dortmund, while the latter could completely overhaul the structure at the club.
On the pitch, there is uncertainty as well. Despite Niko Kovac having a contract at the club until 2026, he could still be fired if Dortmund’s season is a failure. Die Schwarzgelben are also currently planning their squad for next season under several different scenarios.

The fans at the Signal Iduna Park have already expressed their frustrations on the matter with a message previously aimed at the board shown in the stands.
