Tottenham Hotspur may have spent over £100million on new strikers across recent years, but they remain short of firepower up front.

Ange Postecoglou‘s injury woes throughout this season have largely been concentrated towards the rear of his team, but there’s been no shortage of attackers – and particularly strikers – on the treatment table.

Dominic Solanke remains out having picked up an injury while training in mid-January, having started life in North London brightly with 11 goals in all competitions since signing from Bournemouth for £65m.

Richarlison is also being nursed back to full fitness having aggravated a hamstring strain in Spurs’ recent Premier League loss to Leicester, leaving Postecoglou starved of options in the final third.

Tottenham identify Marcus Thuram to solve striker dilemma
With Daniel Levy set to be on the hunt for a striker once again this summer, InterLive have stated that with Spurs still to fill the void left by Harry Kane, they’ve identified Marcus Thuram as their top target.

The Italian outlet reported on 14 February that the Lilywhites have been “following” Thuram since his spell at Borussia Monchengladbach, albeit Inter would demand “at least” £66.8m to sell him.

While this figure isn’t seen to be an “insurmountable obstacle” for Spurs to match financially, it remains to be seen if Levy would sanction such a fee after spending a similar amount on Solanke last summer.

Marcus Thuram transfer to take Tottenham up a level
Signing Thuram – who has become one of Europe’s premier strikers since his move to Inter in 2023 – would be one hell of a coup for Tottenham this summer, and one which may transform their fortunes.

Spurs have had a woeful season by their recent standards so far, with injuries hampering Postecoglou’s side significantly, and there’s a likely chance they don’t qualify for European football next term.

Missing out on Europe altogether – let alone the Champions League – could prove fatal to any chance of signing a player of Thuram’s calibre, but the North Londoners will still have plenty of pulling power.

That’s proven to be the case for Mathys Tel – whose loan deal from Bayern Munich includes an option to buy – and should the teenager have an impressive campaign, he could join Thuram in the France squad.

Whether such a progression – or indeed a healthy financial package – would tempt Thuram towards the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is unclear, but if Spurs are intent on signing the striker, they’ll surely go all-out to secure his signature.
