Timo Werner’s future at Tottenham Hotspur appears increasingly uncertain following his omission from the club’s updated Europa League squad.

Report from the club correspondent Ben Jacobs on X indicates that Spurs are unlikely to activate the £8.5 million purchase option to make Werner’s loan move from RB Leipzig permanent.

This decision suggests the German winger may be heading back to the Bundesliga at the end of the season.

Timo Werner’s difficult time at Tottenham
The 28-year-old has endured a difficult campaign plagued by form and fitness issues. With only one goal and three assists in 26 appearances across all competitions, Werner has struggled to make a meaningful impact.

His situation has been further hampered by a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since January, causing him to miss eight matches.

Although Werner has occasionally showcased his speed and dribbling skills, consistency has eluded him during his time in North London. This lack of impact seems to have prompted Tottenham to explore other offensive options.

One such move is the recent acquisition of 19-year-old Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season. Tel’s arrival is seen as a forward-thinking strategy, with an option for a permanent transfer reportedly valued at £50 million.

The promising French forward has already made a strong impression, scoring his first goal in Spurs’ recent FA Cup fixture against Aston Villa.

Werner’s exclusion from the Europa League signals what could be the beginning of the end of his stint at Tottenham.

Despite a successful career with RB Leipzig, where he became their all-time leading scorer and a Champions League-winning spell at Chelsea, Werner has found it difficult to replicate that success with Spurs.

As Tottenham look to revamp their squad, moving on from Werner underscores their commitment to building a younger and more dynamic team under Ange Postecoglou.
