The Wolverines flew from Detroit to Tampa in a chartered 747 aircraft, landing in Florida on Thursday evening. They will begin practicing at a local high school on Friday and will participate in other area activities — including charity work, a beach day and time at Busch Gardens — as part of the postseason festivities. Earlier this month, Sherrone Moore visited Tampa to sign a ceremonial bowl game contract. During the trip, he discussed his expectations for the ReliaQuest Bowl. Here’s what he said:
On being in Tampa ahead of the ReliaQuest Bowl:
Moore: Super excited for the opportunity to play a great opponent in Tampa. Excited to get away from the cold weather for a little bit. Love our state of Michigan, but sometimes it’s fun to get away from that weather up there. We’re ready to go and the boys are getting prepared right now.
On the players’ excitement for the bowl game:
Moore: It’s another opportunity to play the game that you love and play the game with your brothers. So the boys are preparing. We’re on a low boil right now as we’ve got some time to go play, but they’re super excited.
On how he’s adapted into the role of head coach in his first year:
Moore: It’s constant. You never reach your pinnacle goal of where you want to be. I think even when you win championships, you’re still wanting to get better and striving to get better. So that question will be answered when I get done coaching, which hopefully is not for a long time.
On his previous experiences in Tampa:
Moore: I used to recruit here a lot. This was one of my main recruiting areas when I was at the University of Louisville. I’ve spent a lot of time here in Tampa.
On the early impression of the ReliaQuest Bowl matchup, which is a 2024 Rose Bowl rematch:
Moore: [Fans] are excited. Obviously we had a great matchup last year in the Rose Bowl. I think it was the most watched game in college football. I know there were a lot of people tuned in, a lot of people here, so we’re excited for the support. … I think it will carry over. It’s a new game, different teams. Boys will be ready on both sides of the football.
