Carlos Alcaraz fires Back: standing firm on overcrowded schedule concerns

Carlos Alcaraz argues that tennis authorities and players need to address the demanding schedule, responding to criticism about his complaints regarding the calendar despite participating in numerous exhibition events.

Recently, many ATP and WTA players have voiced concerns that the tennis season is excessively long, with most starting in late December and ending in November. Some have been labeled hypocrites for being told they don’t have to compete in every tournament, yet both Tours feature over a dozen mandatory events requiring player attendance.

Alcaraz expressed frustration with the busy schedule, admitting he often lacks motivation to compete. “Sometimes I didn’t feel motivated at all,” he said. “The calendar is really tight, with many tournaments and not enough days off.” He humorously added that the schedule might “kill us in some way,” suggesting that in the coming years, there will likely be even more tournaments and mandatory events.
