William Hidden Fears: what’s still lurking in the shadows?

While the focus is on Sunday’s Championship match against Bristol City, manager Luke Williams is also monitoring the performances of several Swansea City players on loan this season.

The Swans have a relatively thin squad in the second tier due to multiple summer departures, but some players were loaned out—either those uncertain about their future at the club or younger talents aiming to prove themselves for potential roles at Swansea.Com Stadium.

Jerry Yates’ year-long loan to Derby was unexpected, especially after the club spent about £2.5 million to acquire him from Blackpool last summer, where he was the joint top scorer with eight goals. However, he has yet to score for the Rams, starting four matches since their Championship return and recently had a confrontation with Sheffield United’s manager, Chris Wilder.

Another forward, Mykola Kuharevich, has returned to Hibernian on loan. The Ukrainian believes he has improved during his time in Wales, despite spending much of it sidelined. He has played six times this season, scoring two goals, including one against Celtic and another in a 2-0 victory over St Johnstone.

Meanwhile, attacking midfielder Joel Cotterill is on a season-long loan at League Two club Swindon Town, managed by former Cardiff defender Mark Kennedy. Although Swindon is currently in 21st place in the league, Cotterill has gained valuable experience, starting six games and scoring twice, including a goal against Newport County. He also netted two goals for Wales’ Under-21 team in their qualifying win in Iceland and scored a long-range effort in the EFL Trophy for Swindon.

Another academy product, Cameron Congreve, is on loan at newly-promoted Bromley, where he has made nine starts in all competitions. The 20-year-old has the option to extend his contract with Swansea at the season’s end, and he is joined at Bromley by 22-year-old forward Josh Thomas, who has made only one substitute appearance in the EFL so far.
