IBROX NEWS: Rangers race La Liga duo Sevilla and Granada to sign EPL star

La Liga side Sevilla and Granada have joined Rangers in a bid to sign on-loan Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate, sources have told Football Insider.
Alzate is currently on loan at Standard Liège for the second time, with the Colombian international having impressed in his last 18 months in Belgium.
Fluid Logo The midfielder has played 12 games in all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
Alzate, 25, is working his way back to fitness from his ankle injury and is expected to return within the next 10 days.
Rangers are monitoring the midfield situation to strengthen their options in the center of the park.
However, Sevilla and Granada are now in the race to sign him and are prepared to offer the London-born star the chance to move to Spain’s top flight.
Alzate, who has made 51 appearances for Brighton, is in the final six months of his contract at the Amex Stadium.
However, the Seagulls have the option to extend his contract for a further 12 months to prevent him from leaving the club on a free transfer.
He originally joined Philippe Clement’s former club Standard Liège on loan in the summer of 2022, and had an impressive first season in Belgium with three goals and five assists in all competitions.
Alzate spent his career at Leyton Orient before moving to Brighton in 2017 at the age of 18.
Rangers have already completed their first signing in January, taking striker Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves to Ibrox for the remainder of the season.
Clement’s side are second in the Scottish Premiership, eight points behind rivals Celtic with two games in hand.
In other news, Rangers are accelerating plans to sign a second striker.
