AFL Hall of Fame Legend Leigh Matthews to join Fox Footy team for prime time blockbuster

AFL Hall of Fame legend Leigh Matthews is set to bring his wealth of experience to television screens in 2025, joining the Fox Footy team for their primetime AFL broadcasts. The iconic former player and coach, widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in the game’s history, will contribute his expert analysis and sharp football mind to the network’s coverage, particularly on Friday night blockbusters.

Matthews’ addition is part of a broader revamp at Fox Footy as the network aims to deliver its most comprehensive AFL coverage yet. One of the key new offerings is “Super Saturday Live,” a full-day broadcast slate running from midday to midnight, featuring live matches and in-depth commentary with no ad-breaks during play. This move is designed to offer fans a more immersive and uninterrupted viewing experience.

Alongside Matthews, several familiar names will headline the 2025 Fox Footy lineup. Gerard Whateley and Anthony Hudson will lead Friday night commentary duties, while Garry Lyon returns to co-host “AFL 360” with Whateley. Meanwhile, Jack Riewoldt takes over hosting responsibilities on “On the Couch,” joined by former stars Jonathan Brown and Nathan Buckley.

Fox Sports Managing Director Steve Crawley welcomed Matthews to the team, describing him as “the biggest name in AFL” and praising his football intellect. Crawley emphasized that Matthews’ presence will add enormous value to Fox Footy’s broadcasts and deepen the overall quality of commentary throughout the season.

With these exciting additions and programming changes, Fox Footy is set to elevate its coverage of the 2025 AFL season, combining expert insights with dynamic presentation to engage die-hard fans and new viewers alike.
