VAR Explanation As Goal Disallowed In Chelsea vs West Ham Tie

VAR confirmed that a Niclas Fullkrug goal in West Ham’s match with Chelsea was ruled out due to an offside in the build-up.

Fullkrug thought, briefly, that he had notched the third goal of an action-packed first half after sending a sweet strike beyond Robert Sanchez following a ricochet in the penalty area.

But Chelsea players protested immediately given they felt there was an offside in the build-up. And VAR, aided by automated offside technology, promptly confirmed that was indeed the case.

The Premier League confirmed the decision on X, writing in a post: “VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Todibo was in an offside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was disallowed.”
